Nutraceuticals - Colostrinin

Nutraceuticals for Humans

Products containing Colostrinin are already available in a number of countries and ReGen is constantly seeking to add to its list of appointed Distributors.

In July 2006 ReGen announced that it had entered into a license agreement with Metagenics, Inc. for the commercialisation of Colostrinin as a human nutraceutical in North America.

With headquarters in San Clemente, California, Metagenics is a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of science-based nutraceuticals and medical foods sold to healthcare practitioners worldwide. The company has over 30,000 healthcare practitioners promoting its products in the North American markets alone.  Under the terms of the license agreement, ReGen produces bulk Colostrinin for delivery to Metagenics, who carry out the formulation and packaging of the final product and arrange for its marketing, distribution and sale.

The product is marketed by Metagenics under the brand name CogniSure. Metagenics launched CogniSure as a nutraceutical in the North American market in October 2007. This was the first launch of the product in any major market in the world and a significant milestone in ReGen’s history. Furthermore, in August 2009, Metagenics announced that it had entered into a joint venture agreement with Alticor, a global company dedicated to the research and development of best-in-class products, which are marketed under their renowned Nutrilite brand. The new joint venture arrangement is considered by ReGen to be a very positive move that will enable CogniSure  to be promoted to an even wider consumer audience.

The license agreement with Metagenics was extended in July 2007 to include Australasia. The product is marketed as Colostrinin and is distributed in the Australasian professional market by Health World Ltd, a subsidiary of Metagenics, Inc.  Health World is a leading supplier of natural medicines in those markets.

At the beginning of March 2008, ReGen signed the first European distribution agreement for Colostrinin with Golgi Pharmaceuticals Ltd of Cyprus. For the Cyprus market, the product is branded as Cognase™ and is sold through the professional and retail channels for distribution to health food stores and pharmacies. Cyprus is a member of the European Union which, with the US and the Far East, is one of the three key areas that ReGen is targeting for the distribution of Colostrinin.

The agreement with Golgi Pharmaceuticals Ltd was extended in March 2009, to include the rights to distribute and sell Cognase™ in Greece and other Balkan countries

ReGen appointed Eczacibasi Ilac Pazarlama A.S., a leading Turkish industrials group, as their exclusive distributor of Colostrinin  in Turkey in January 2009.  Eczacibasi secured final approval to import and market the product from the Turkish authorities in May 2010 and launched the product at the end of June under the brand name Dyna .

In June 2009, ReGen announced that it had signed an agreement with Firma Tagerr Polska for the exclusive distribution and sale of Colostrinin in Poland. The Colostrinin complex was first discovered by scientists working in Poland and it has received significant press coverage in the Polish media throughout the period of development. Tagerr sell the CogniSure brand in Poland, via their website based trading operation.

The list of ReGen’s distributors was added to in August 2009, when PRG Nutraceuticals Ltd signed an exclusive marketing agreement for retail distribution of Colostrinin in the United Kingdom. Their version of the product, which they have branded MemoryAid, was launched at the end of September and is available to consumers via the MemoryAid website.

Most recently, in July 2010, ReGen announced that it had signed a supply agreement with USV Limited, a leading Indian company based in Mumbai, which represents the first consumer launch of Colostrinin in a major market.

India is particularly important because it is one of the major growth drivers of the world economy and its large population is accustomed to self-medication. A consumer launch in this market has significant potential for ReGen’s long term profitability. USV are planning to launch the product in the middle of 2010 and their commitment to Colostrinin is shown by the fact that they have developed and will manufacture their own formulation of Colostrinin specifically tailored to the market in India, which they will sell under the brand name Cognate.

Further details on all of ReGen’s appointed distributors can be found on the Distributors page of this section of the website.

Nutraceuticals for Companion Animals

As a further development of the potential for Colostrinin, ReGen has also been investigating the possibility for a nutraceutical targeted at domestic dogs and cats.

The Company sponsored a study in the treatment of dementia in ageing dogs and cats, which was conducted by the professional staff at Cinque Ports Veterinary Associates in the United Kingdom. The final results were published on 11 February 2008. Nicholas ‘Nick’ Mills, Principal Investigator to the study summarised the findings by saying “These results clearly show that Colostrinin™ can significantly reduce the symptoms of cognitive dysfunction in aged cats and dogs. That Colostrinin™ was effective was reinforced by the fact that when animals were assessed one month after completion of the study, and having had no Colostrinin™ for one month, most animals showed a worsened condition”.

The study showed Colostrinin™ to be well tolerated. With regard to specific benefits, a number of owners noted improvements in symptoms related to disorientation, sleep and grooming. A significant proportion of owners reported an increase in appetite, water consumption and an improvement in coat condition.

Sadly, Nick died suddenly at the end of 2008 and was unable to follow-up on what he considered to be the very exciting findings of the initial study. However, ReGen believes that the results of his work show a potential benefit for ageing cats and dogs and continues to seek potential licensees who may be interested to take the project forward.
